the blocks update

new bongle update!

blocks

  • a lot of new blocks in the kit. autumn, cherry, spruce, snowy and dry grass sets, with leaves, logs, planks, saplings and leaf litter to match. copper that weathers, iron, gold and bronze blocks, hay, melons, pumpkins, cactus, moss, bones, crates, frosted glass, iron bars and more.
  • rails and powered rails that join up with their neighbours, curving round corners and climbing slopes.
  • wires that connect across steps, levers, buttons, fence gates, and lamps that light up.
  • oak, spruce, cherry and iron doors.
  • torches that hang on walls, vines, string, snow you can stack in layers, icicles, ice spikes and rock spikes.
  • portals, rainbow, disco and ? blocks, all animated. rainbow, spirit and swamp water too.
  • parts of a block can glow on their own now, like a lamp's bulb or a torch's flame.
  • the existing kit textures got a refresh.
  • block states use the same names minecraft does (type: 'bottom' on a slab, and so on), so if you know those you already know these.
  • placing a half slab on another half slab makes a double slab, and blocks can check the cells around them before they place.

building

  • worldedit-style selection and shape commands in the editor chat.
  • /stack, /move and /paste. paste stamps the clipboard where you're looking, or back where you copied it from with --origin.
  • hollow brush shapes.

homepage

  • a new homepage feed. games and avatars on one wall, with obbies, pvp, demos, sketches and builds to jump into, and it keeps going as you scroll.
  • avatars live in the feed now, so there's no separate avatars page anymore.
  • a new header, just play and create.

bingle

  • Bingle shows what each turn changed, with diffs, and you can revert a turn.
  • copy, retry and edit messages you sent. up arrow walks back through them.
  • paste long text or drop files in as attachments.
  • you can see what Bingle is saying while it's still working, and it knows what you have selected.
  • Bingle is in avatar and package sessions too now, not just projects.
  • a project shell: a bash tool for agents, and a terminal app for you.

bongle mcp

  • npx bongle mcp reaches your editor directly. nothing to download and nothing to pair.
  • bongle dev answers mcp too, with no relay to install.
  • agents can restart a play session, stop it, or leave it.
  • the editor tells you whether agents can actually reach it.

api

  • local nodes and local traits: a node or trait that stays on the side that made it. never sent, never saved. good for client-only effects.
  • trait requires, to declare which other traits a trait needs.
  • character controller config lives on the trait now, replicates from the server, and changes with update().
  • every character has an aabb RigidBody on every side, so rays, sensors and joints can reach it.
  • stridePhase, strideAmount and strideLength replace bobPhase.
  • an aabb physics shape, and you can swap a body's shape without rebuilding it.
  • physics uses game gravity, 20 m/s², so bodies fall the same way characters do.
  • only bodies moved by code push characters around. a dynamic body blocks them and reports the contact.
  • setOwner is public, addChild moves a node within its tree, and a leaving player's nodes go back to the server.
  • input functions take ctx and write mouse and look deltas into out vectors, with no allocation.
  • games can set their view radius, capped per device so slower devices stay smooth.
  • new examples: a mount example where you ride horses across a meadow, a held-item example, and the items example is now called survival.

fixes

  • hot reload swaps scripts more reliably, and declarations can move between files without breaking.
  • on-top sprites no longer get painted over by cutout and translucent blocks.
  • a reparented player's transform comes through properly when someone joins.
  • bodies in a rotated scene no longer lose their velocity every tick.
